A Fun Day at Cannonsburg Village: Community Spirit and Good Times

Yesterday was a blast at Cannonsburg Village! A huge thanks to Don Kurylowicz and his team for putting together such a fantastic community event. The crowd was a wonderful mix of familiar and new faces, and let’s not forget the BBQ—it was an absolute treat.

The event featured yard games, face painting, snow cones, and delicious food that everyone enjoyed. Sadly, I missed Don's turn in the dunk tank, but if anyone got a photo of that, please send it my way for this blog post—LOL!

Throughout the event, I met folks who have known Don for over 20 years and others who just met him last week. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Don a few weeks ago, and he shared the incredible story of how he transformed what was once a “biker bar” into the beloved community staple it is today. If you haven’t heard his story, I highly recommend asking him to share it with you sometime.

I’ve had the honor of working with Don on the Polish Dishes Cookbook, which my office has been printing for years to help preserve and share the rich Polish history of both the WestSide and Cannon Township.

Currently, I’m in the process of putting together a new Polish Dishes Cookbook that features modern Polish recipes. And I mean no disrespect to the old world, but times have changed—some of the soup recipes in the original “Polish Dishes” would be considered just broth by today’s standards. If you have any family recipes you’d like to see live on, please consider sharing them with me. I’m looking to include a wide variety of recipes along with the anecdotal stories that go with them.

But back to the event—thank you, Don, for all you do for our community! Your dedication and passion truly make a difference.
