April & May Recap as your Cannon Township Trustee

Here are my updates from the meeting I’m involved in at Cannon Township. To get the latest scoop, it’s best to subscribe to the website for alerts and/or attend the meetings. The public is always welcomed! Keep in mind this is from my perspective and not the official minutes (those will be out in June).

Invasive Species and Watershed Meeting

We are planning a fun activity for our youth this summer, something like Summer Lingo Bingo—we’re still working on a name. Think of it like a BINGO reading challenge, but for our youth to explore all that Cannon Township has to offer. From learning about native plants to attending one of our Invasive Species events on July 20 or October 5, and enjoying the trails of our town. Stay tuned for more information coming soon. If you are connected to any of the schools in the area, please let me know! (I am only familiar with Lakes Elementary since my kids go there).

Trustee Cy Balk leads the Invasive Species/Watershed Committee, and we’ve had a great response from residents, providing valuable input on how we can get the community more involved.

May 13, Board Meeting

We had a different board meeting schedule this May due to the small election that took place on May 7 for the folks in the Lowell School District. Clerk Alles said there were 10 people who voted in person; the rest were absentee.

April 22 Board Meeting Minutes were approved Monday, May 13.

There were a lot of items on the May 13 agenda. Here’s the packet if you’re interested in learning more.

The most interesting topic was the possibility of getting one lump sum for the easement of the cell tower vs. monthly payments.

We also decided to list the property at 9275 Belding Road for auction so it can sell at fair market value.

I was appointed as the interim representative for the GVMC.

You can also watch the recording of the board meeting here.

May 14, Planning Commission Meeting

The Planning Commission Meeting went from 6 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. on May 14. It was a packed agenda, and some guests suggested that we need popcorn for the next meeting. :)

The April 9 PC minutes were approved Tuesday, May 14.

**Ordinance Amendment** for a drive-through in Town Center, it now goes to the board. I’m not sure what the date it will be on the agenda.

**Site Plan Approval - 9130 Old Belding Road** - Tom Nyeunhius was approved with all the conditions suggested by the engineer and planner.

**Major Amendment to PUD and Site Plan Approval - Orchardview Phase II** - Brandon Visser. The motion was made to approve as long as all the items suggested by the engineer and planner are done.

**Request to Rezone to PUD and Preliminary Site Plan Approval - Karla Wagner** was denied for a number of reasons. The official minutes will be out in June for more details.

Next Board Meeting is Monday, June 10 at 7p.m. resident participation is welcomed and encouraged.
