Cannon Township Fire Department Pancake Breakfast Returns Oct. 3, Supporting Two Local Causes

ROCKFORD, Mich. — A favorite Cannon Township tradition returns Saturday, Oct. 3, as the Cannon Township Fire Department welcomes the community for its annual Pancake Breakfast from 8–10 a.m. at Fire Station No. 2, 6878 Belding Road NE in Rockford.

The family-friendly event brings generations of Cannon Township residents together for breakfast, conversation and a morning with the firefighters who serve the community.

Last year’s breakfast set another record for both attendance and giving, raising $4,960 for two organizations close to the department’s heart: Riding for Ryan and Great Lakes Burn Camp.

“The Pancake Breakfast is one of those mornings we look forward to every year because it gives our crew a chance to spend time with the community in a completely different setting,” said Cannon Township Fire Chief Jim Morris. “We get to cook breakfast, visit with families, show kids the trucks and, at the same time, raise money for two organizations doing really meaningful work. It’s a great reflection of the community we’re fortunate to serve.”

There is no set admission price. Instead, guests are invited to give whatever is on their heart. Upon arrival, a fire boot will be ready to collect donations, with proceeds supporting both organizations.

Riding for Ryan is a West Michigan nonprofit dedicated to improving bicycle safety for children through education and visibility. The organization provides high-visibility bicycle safety flags to young riders, with the Cannon Township Fire Department serving as one of its local pickup locations.

Great Lakes Burn Camp provides camp experiences for children who have experienced burn injuries, creating opportunities for healing, friendship, confidence and fun alongside others who understand their experiences.

At the heart of the morning will be the Cannon Township fire crew itself, working the grills, serving pancakes with a smile and spending time with the community.

“We are incredibly proud of the Cannon Township Fire Department,” said Township Supervisor Steve Grimm. “They are highly trained professionals who are there for our residents on some of their most difficult days, but events like the Pancake Breakfast also show another side of who they are. They care deeply about this community, they give back and they genuinely enjoy building relationships with the people they serve. Cannon Township is very fortunate to have this team.”

Families will also have the opportunity to get an up-close look at emergency vehicles. Nelson’s Towing and Rockford Ambulance will join the Fire Department, giving kids and families another chance to explore some of the vehicles they see serving the community throughout the year.

Local Scouts will also be on hand to help with this year’s breakfast.

The event has become the kind of Cannon Township tradition where longtime residents, young families and multiple generations can sit down together, enjoy breakfast and get to know the firefighters and emergency personnel who serve the area.
