Go Behind the Scenes with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office

Have you ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes at the Kent County Sheriff’s Office?

Applications are now open for the 2026 KCSO Citizens Police Academy, a free program that gives Kent County residents an inside look at local law enforcement through demonstrations, tours, conversations, and hands-on experiences.

Participants will learn more about several areas of the Sheriff’s Office, including:

  • K-9 operations

  • Criminal investigations and forensics

  • 911 communications

  • Patrol operations

  • Marine and Dive Teams

  • The Mounted Unit

  • Correctional Facility operations

  • And much more

The academy is a great opportunity to meet members of the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, better understand their responsibilities, and see firsthand how the different divisions work together to serve our community.

Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings this fall from 6 to 9 p.m.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old and live in Kent County. Space is limited, and participants must apply in advance.
