Cannon Township Parks & Recreation Survey: What We Heard

While this survey gave us helpful insights and is considered a strong response rate by survey standards, it’s important to keep perspective. Only about 2% of Cannon Township residents participated, which means these results reflect a snapshot of voices rather than the whole community. Even so, the feedback is meaningful, and it helps guide our Parks & Recreation priorities in ways that align with what many residents value. See the official results here.

🌳 Strong Support for Parks & Trails

The biggest theme from the survey was clear: our community cares about green space.

  • 96% of respondents support improving existing parks and trails.

  • 91% support expanding through new property acquisitions.

That tells us parks and trails aren’t just “nice to have”—they’re essential to how we see our community and its future.

🚶 What Residents Want Most

When asked about top priorities, here’s what rose to the top:

  1. Paved multi-purpose trails

  2. Hiking/non-paved trails

  3. Mountain biking trails

  4. Canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding

  5. Festivals and concert venues

This mix shows that residents are looking for both active recreation and community experiences—opportunities to move, gather, and celebrate together.

🏞️ Priorities at Township Hall Park

Many respondents shared ideas for how to make Township Hall Park even more useful. The most-requested upgrades were:

  • Multi-purpose green space

  • Expanded playground areas

  • A community center

  • Rentable picnic shelters

  • A pump track

It’s exciting to see such energy for making our central park a true community hub.

💡 Key Takeaways

  • Cleanliness counts: 88% rated parks as Good or Excellent. That’s a credit to the team that maintains them.

  • Flexibility matters: Families want spaces that can serve multiple purposes—playgrounds, fitness, and gathering areas all in one.

  • Community pride: Parks and trails are about more than recreation. They’re places where neighbors connect, friendships grow, and memories are made.

🗣️ What This Means Moving Forward

As a Township, we hear you. These results will help guide our planning in ways that:

  • Keep our current parks in excellent condition

  • Plan for thoughtful expansion where it makes the most sense

  • Support both active recreation and community events

  • Look for partnerships to stretch taxpayer dollars further

Together, we’re building a Cannon Township that future generations will be proud to call home.
