Keep It Local
There are 85 days until the primary election in Cannon Township.
I understand why so many people feel exhausted by politics right now. Turn on the television, scroll social media, or open the news, and it can feel overwhelming. It’s easy to throw your hands up and think, “What difference can I really make?”
But as many of you know, I tend to see the world through rose colored glasses. I still believe good communities are built from the ground up, not the top down. It starts in our own backyards.
Say hello when you pass someone on the sidewalk. Wave to your neighbors. Pick up a piece of trash when you see it. Put your shopping cart away. Hold the door open for someone. Buy the coffee for the person behind you in line. Bring your neighbor a treat. These small acts of kindness matter more than we realize because they shape the culture of a community.
The same goes for local elections.
Don’t let national politics ruin local politics. Local government is about roads, parks, public safety, trails, responsible budgeting, and preserving the kind of community we want our children and grandchildren to grow up in. It is neighbors working alongside neighbors to solve practical problems.
How do you decide who to vote for? The candidate? The party? A combination of both? And how do you do research on the candidate? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Send me a message at info@jesslaydon.com or give me a call 616-915-5370.
